The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is coming out and there is a lot of concern as to what it will mean. By the morning of 25th May 2018 GDPR will become European Law. The role of Data Protection has vastly changed since the initial directive was put in place in 1995; a more permissive regime in Europe is passing and a new citizen-focussed practise is being born. All businesses that handle personal data must now recognise this shift and move forward by incorporating GDPR into every aspect of their business. At aura, we process over two million customer records each year for our clients so we have ensured that we both understand and comply with these new regulations.


This report from our Data Protection Officer:

“GDPR places far greater responsibilities on Data Processers and Data Controllers. Any data obtained must be processed in a fair, lawful and transparent manner. Strict measures must be in place to ensure the security of the data held. At aura, we recognise this responsibility and will support our clients (the Data Controllers) in achieving compliance together.

aura is already taking the lead in this journey. We have actively set up a Data Inventory, mapped data flows, managed risk, carried out Data Privacy Impact Assessments and ensured that security and privacy is built into every aspect of our systems. In order to reassure our clients aura is pursuing ISO 27001 and BSI 10001. Our aim is to guarantee that we utilise the same technical and organisational measures as our clients do; it is important that companies who share their customer data with us trust that we are fully engaged and uphold the new rights of their customers as much as they do.

For many this movement means fully formalising pre-existing processes and at aura, we are ready  to work with our partners in this imminent transition.”
